Dr. Dina Katabi

Andrew & Erna Viterbi Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT

Director of the MIT’s Center for Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing

This talk presents Emerald, a Wi-Fi-like device for remote health monitoring. Emerald analyzes the wireless signals in the environment using machine learning to infer breathing, heart rate, motion, and sleep without physical contact or proximity to a patient. It can automatically detect changes in health metrics and enable early intervention. As part of the technology validation, Emerald has been deployed in a retirement home, allowing the staff and doctors to remotely and safely monitor COVID-19 infected patients.

Professor Katabi will present the Emerald technology and show some results from monitoring COVID-19 patients.
