Dr. Rebecca Heino Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Communications; Academic Director, Master of Science in Strategic Communication Program & Executive Master of Science in Strategic Communication Program.

Dr. Heino teaches courses in leading teams, management communication, social intelligence, leading change, critical conversations, cross-cultural intelligence and presentations for master’s programs in communication and finance, MBAs, executive master’s in leadership, and executives. She works with executives on effective leadership, emotional intelligence, communication, conflict management, and cross-cultural fluency. She has worked extensively in executive education, teaching clients such as Nextel International, International Finance Corporation, Rio Tinto, Nigerian Institute of Management, AARP, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

Dr. Heino has led leadership development sessions for companies such as KPMG, Goldman Sachs, CoStar, Justice, AOL, Pfizer, and GlaxoSmithKline. Her published articles have appeared in journals in management such as Organization Science, Communication Research, Journal of Computer-mediated Communication, and Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. She has been the recipient of 'best paper' awards by the International Communication Association and the European Academy of Management. 

Dr. Heino is certified in Baron’s EQi, DISC, CQ (cultural intelligence), and ExperienceChange, and has a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University. She has also been a visiting professor in London for the University of Southern California, focusing on the study of global organizations and British media.

Cindy M. Lott, Esq. Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Nonprofit Management; Academic Director, MS Nonprofit Management.

Cindy M. Lott served as Executive Director and Senior Counsel to the National State Attorneys General Program at Columbia Law School, and within that Program was the developer and lead counsel to the Charities Regulation and Oversight Project from 2006-2015. Currently, Lott is also a Senior Fellow at the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Urban Institute, working in conjunction with the Institute’s Tax Policy and Charities project. She develops and moderates a series of national convenings on state and federal regulation of the charitable sector and is engaged in research regarding regulatory capacity and enforcement at the state level. At Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies, Lott teaches several courses addressing governance, ethics and the relationship of the nonprofit sector and government.

Lott was selected as one of four members of the IRS Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (ACT) from 2015 to 2018. Lott served as Chief Counsel to the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston and was Deputy Counsel to the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. She has worked at large firms in several major cities in the areas of employment, business litigation and compliance. She also served as Chief Counsel for Advisory Services in the Indiana Attorney General's office, as well as Section Chief for Administrative and Regulatory Litigation in that office. She also clerked for the United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit. She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Indiana, and Massachusetts.

Dr. Beth Fisher-Yoshida Academic Director, Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution; Professor of Practice; Vice-Chair of Faculty.

As Professor of Professional Practice, Beth Fisher-Yoshida teaches classes in negotiation, conflict resolution, and conflict analysis. Her approach to learning is based on her core belief that when we improve communication by developing more self-awareness, we will have better relationships and improved negotiation practices.

Dr. Fisher-Yoshida is Co-Executive Director of the Advanced Consortium on Cooperation, Conflict, and Complexity (AC4) and Director of the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) program, both housed in the Earth Institute at Columbia University. In her role at YPS she has been working to develop systemic approaches to building more effective communities through youth leadership in Medellín, Colombia, using a Social Lab approach. Her firm, Fisher Yoshida International, focuses on leading organizations through change by improving communication and creating shared goals and practices to align with the organization’s mission and vision. She works globally with clients and speaks conversational Japanese having lived and worked in Japan for 13 years.

As Vice Chair of the Faculty of Professional Studies, Dr. Fisher-Yoshida collaborates with the Chair of Faculty and Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to coordinate and manage the School’s academic governance committees—specifically, the Academic Excellence Committee, Admissions Committee, Chair’s Committee, Resource Allocation Committee, and Reputation, Relationship, and Development Committee. She is also a Certified Clinical Sociologist (CCS).
