Personal Taxes And Investing In 2020

Navigating The Unintended Effects Of The Tax Cuts Act

This event is co-sponsored by the Princeton Club of Washington, DC.

In 2018, the US government passed the biggest tax code overhaul in 30 years. The redesign was intended to simplify the tax code, eliminate loopholes, and reduce overall tax rates.

However, the Act created some extreme distortions for taxpayers and businesses alike, adding unsustainable rocket fuel to an already humming economy. Many of these revisions caught even the most experienced taxpayers and accountants off-guard.

As we move into the second year of the Tax Cuts Act, it's time to take a good, honest look at how these new regulations affect you, and what you can do about it.

Join Tom Yeung, CFA and IRS Enrolled Agent, in exploring personal taxes and finance in today's circumstances. How do you make sure you're 1) making the most of available tax breaks, 2) preparing for the updated IRS audit guidelines, and 3) protecting your finances for the inevitable economic downturn once major portions of the tax cuts expire.

Tom is an investment and tax advisor based in Washington, DC. He started his career in corporate finance and moved into equity & portfolio analysis shortly after. These days, Tom runs his own advisory firm, where he works with individuals and small businesses to navigate investing, taxes, and other financial matters.
